Sangha Affirmation and Writing Prompt
Sangha for Artists of Life
7am AEST for Spring
Our affirmation today was influenced by Wisdom for Healing Cards, by Caroline Myss.
I adjusted Caroline’s words to suit. Thank you to Caroline for giving us a starting point:
Today is a day to dwell on ideas greater than you ever thought possible: What if?
Perhaps a day of silence is in order.
“Imagine that your life is a sacred chapel”
Imagine that every cm of your life is filled with grace and gratitude.
Your goal today could be something like: visualise yourself in the company of that which is greater than yourself.
Our writing prompt was once again from the Box of Cards: Writing Coach in a Box, by Alan Anderson.
When working with your characters, think about a possible mentor for them: mentors can lift the stories and challenge your characters in many ways, improving your story.
Anderson offers nine things a good mentor can do for your characters, and if you are working on self-reflection, ask what can a good mentor do for you?
Alan Anderson’s suggestions:
1. They can save your protagonist
2. They can fill in the backstory
3. They can teach your character skills that will help them move toward their objective.
4. Their goals may conflict with your character, and all the better.
5. They can provide your character with confidence and inner strength when everything falls apart.
6. They can drive your protagonist mad (they can be irritating, unreliable…)
7. They can turn out to be a hidden antagonist.
8. They can deliver the story’s moral.
9. As the storyteller, you can sacrifice them.
Thank you, and see you tomorrow.
