Readjusting to life back home...I arrived back in Brisbane 24 hours ago, after nearly 4 months away. Sitting on my verandah with my dogs around me, a hot cup of black coffee, and choral music playing, I fall into a reflective state of mind. Not dark as in bad, but dark as in mysterious. One of the books that sticks out from the others on the shelf is "Light the Dark: Writers on Creativity, Inspiration and the Artistic Process" edited by Joe Fassl...

After two months and 24 artists, it is time to return home. I'm sitting in a train between Tampere and Helskinki thinking about what just happened. It was a whirlwind of conversations, activities, meditation, walking, dreaming and eating. Of deep philosophical conversations and whimsy. Of Finnish movies and silent days.

Above is a picture of my studio, where the ideas were formed, art was created, dreams were hatched and creative conversations occu...

Forests. Changing seasons. Slowing down. Walking. Reading. Researching. Teaching. Learning. Facilitating. Cooking. Walking. Conversing. Playing. Meditating. Yoga Soul. Walking.

I am here at Arteles Creative Center in the middle of Finland to facilitate the practice of a new way of flowing with one’s artistic and sometimes challenged ways of being in this world.   Our first adventure must be in the forest. Finns adore the forest and so, because we...

"Sitting, Sun soft and cool

So unlike my Queensland air".

I'm sitting on a wooden wharf looking at the melting snow, thinking of the seasons and how everything changes. We cannot hold on to spring or summer or autumn or winter.  Change is ceaseless. But we can experience all four seasons at four different times and we can translate those seasons into life cycles.

It used to be there were three, what P.L. Travers (writer of Mary Poppins) called "Nymph...

One of my most favourite activities is collage, but only AFTER the vacuuming has been done and kitchen duties are finished. I took this photo on the weekend after trying to find a place on my walls (the kitchen bench had to do) for my latest collage: when I collage my intention is not to create art. It is to create a landscape for meaning making. Here I have enlarged the collage score (what I will work with) by taking the photo of the surroundings...

This month has been a month of RICC workshops (Relational Impulse Cultural Collaborative Training, one of the outcomes of my PhD), where I have met dozens of artists of all ages (emerging, mid-career and senior artists) with varying artistic vocations. These workshops were at  4change coaching (3 one day workshops in Pullenvale), Queensland University of Technology (Acting Program), QACI (Queensland Academy of Creative Industries), Playlab and She...

"go with the pleasure" (phrase borrowed from Deborah Hay, USA)

"yes and"

"notice what you notice"

"thicken the space between"

These expressions are some of the basic terminology found in our RICC (Relational Impulse Cultural Collaborative Training, the outcome of my PhD) rehearsal room/creative arts studio...we are always on the search for a little more: a little more pleasure (Deborah Hay), a little more 'thickening of the space between" (the word 't...

Tara Parker-Pope has written a fabulous article for the New York Times (thank you Tara) that provides tools, simple tools, to help bring happiness a little closer. It can be accessed on:

Meanwhile, here is a brief take on it. I have added video links if you want to expand on any of the points.  At the end I have added my own contribution which include nature and connectedness. And I am sure you also have some points to add. Please feel free to leav...

Number 2 of Dr. Mikhail Litvak's "22 rules that will change your life for the better".

Yesterday I reframed number 1 (see previous post on )

Today I am briefly looking at number 2.  The original article can be found at

Thank you Riley C...

Stairway to there one?

Today I awoke, jets overhead, dogs barking and a cool wind blowing. I'm back in Forest Lodge. The city. Coffee with honey, dogs fed, now to write. This morning I scrolled through Facebook to check messages for our upcoming Pullenvale workshops (23rd February, 2nd March and the newest addition where there are still places, 10th March 2019), and I came across an article entitled 22 Rules That Will Change Your Li...
